The Culture, Law and Society Research Group (DGP/CNPq/UFMA), upon completing twelve years of continuous and fruitful activities in the performance of the unique functions of the university institution of scientific development, teaching, research and extension, with the popularization of science and of technology, aiming at the consolidation of the common social good, with the formation of citizen leaders, brings to the general public and, especially, academics, the Monograph Series and Critical Essays, resulting from course conclusion works, formally evaluated and approved , by official boards, by departmental designation of the Law Courses of the Federal University of Maranhão, Campi Continente Imperatriz and São Luís, on Ilha dos Amores, Athenas Brasileira.
It is necessary to point out that the repercussions of the activities of the Culture, Law and Society Research Group (DGP/CNPq/UFMA) in the perception and articulation of the Law to social, political and cultural struggles, and its direct link to the premise of the construction of citizenship, in the horizon of the principles of humanization and socialization that enable reflection, judgment and positioning of students in the face of structural, conjuncture, and personal social problems, is why this Group has the general objective of investigating social issues related to the lines of research: Public Policies - Human Rights vs. Public services; Mediation and Process; Access to Justice and Conflict Management; and, Law, State and Social Control, contributing to the historical process of political emancipation suited to the needs of local society in the tensions of governance and citizenship. As specific objectives: a) Develop projects; b) Disseminate research reports, especially through the Periodical Dialogues Critics – ISSN 2238-3468; and, c) Establish an information network with other sectors, nuclei, groups and/or research centers that reflect similar objectives.
Finally, it is opportune to state that the Research Group finds in its psychosocial capital its ontological expression of power in the unity of differences as a coefficient of equality, adopting the values of integrity, resilience and respect for human dignity, with the unequivocal vision that the The role of the University lies in understanding, first, the socio-economic and political needs of its surroundings and, considering its context, promoting and provoking a conscious, plural, scientifically directed intervention in reality, capable of strengthening the dignity of the human person, in a way sustainable, ethical and inclusive.

Thus, the Research Group (Studies) Culture, Law and Society works as an institutional agent directing its actions of studies, sociological investigations and affirmative propositions aiming to contribute to the reduction of regional inequalities, promoting respect for cultural diversity and the strengthening of republican and democratic constitutional identity, reconciling Teaching, Research and Extension actions between the academy, the global vision and the local society. And yet, aiming to create and maintain the conditions that allow its members to experience an educational journey that is intellectually, socially and personally transformative.
